Charlie and I had a dream to start a very purposeful, intentional breeding program of F1b Goldendoodles. This passionate mission came out of a love for DOGS AND PEOPLE, marrying my two heart beats together into one purpose. Over the years we have expanded to offer multi-gen Goldendoodles, focusing on high GR% and Low/No Shed and now also offering Golden Cavadoodles.
I am a mental health therapist and have practiced as a Family/Child/Marriage Therapist since 2002, working in both the private practice and public school settings. However, I grew up following my grandfather around who was a small animal veterinarian. I spent a lot of time with him and my grandmother, who also worked right alongside him. My grandmother also bred chihuahuas, so I saw first hand and up close the struggles and rewards of breeding dogs and whelping puppies. I have grown up loving animals and their people and have personally witnessed over and over the healing power of a dog.
The mission of Doodles of Cypress was born out of this experience. So the research started. I didn't have my grandfather anymore to guide me so I stumbled around many different dog raising approaches and finally found Puppy Culture. I eagerly ordered the expensive puppy raising program and began watching the curriculum on the DVDs. I remember BAWLING the first time I saw the 1st five minutes of the first Puppy Culture DVD. I connected with the mission of Puppy Culture on a deep, emotional level. Puppies deserved BETTER than most were getting from breeders and breeding programs.
The first 12 weeks of life of a puppy are absolutely crucial. Their brains are like little sponges that can literally absorb almost anything. A good breeder can use this moldable time to forever impact the life of that puppy in such an amazingly POSITIVE way! Behaviors can be set up that will last the lifetime of the dog, increasing its ability to interact with humans and other animals alike...creating a dog that will most likely never be dumped at a shelter, or the side of the road, because of its aggression and inability to co-exist with other dogs and humans.
But HUMAN INFLUENCE IS JUST AS IMPORTANT on the behavioral outcome of an adult dog.
Here enters the great responsibility for a breeder to CAREFULLY choose the homes to which her puppies will go. Fear and Aggression can also be taught by dangerous humans, so it is my job as a responsible breeder, to do everything in my power to carefully vet every potential puppy owner. I am looking for owners who will be responsible alphas to their pack, who will commit to continuing the training after Go-Home Day...an owner that recognizes the enormous responsibility THEY have in giving their puppy the best shot at being an amazing, sound, balanced dog.
Now I was off on my journey, to pick a breed that will have breed characteristics that are optimal for my mission -- a family dog that will be happy, cheerful, co-exist with all humans and other dogs, and be a heart-changer for their family. Having 3 sons, all of which suffer from allergies, I also wanted to pick a breed that was low to no shedding and as hypoallergenic as possible.
THUSLY, we landed on the Goldendoodle! I knew I wanted to retain as much of the amiable traits of the Golden Retriever as possible, but also limit shedding, so I started researching the different generations of the Goldendoodle (there are many) and settled upon the F2B and Multi-Generation with an emphasis on high golden retriever content. Further research also caused me to fall in love with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel as a breed. Unfortunately, pure bred CKCS are fraught with cardiac and other breed-common health issues and diseases, which often happens in the pure-bred community due to genetic bottle-necking. We wanted to combine the incredible temperament of the Cavalier with that of our outstanding Goldendoodles to produce a small, biddable, friendly and brave dog that might fit well into working placements as well as make fantastic companion dogs.
Through that 1st year I started researching reputable breeders of Goldendoodles and Standard Poodles, and found my first two foundation dogs - Sadie and Dutch. Then in further research I found another breeder who introduced me to Jeanette Forrey's Badass Breeder Curriculum, whose program spoke to my heart in such a significant way!
This amazing lady -- Jeanette -- was on a LIFE-CHANGING mission to change breeding as we know it, to create an oath for good breeders to stand behind. An oath which if we ALL adhered to as breeders of ANY dog, would most likely result in the dog-shelter population being decimated to a fraction of what it currently is.
And so Doodles of Cypress was launched on a mission to create happy, healthy, temperamentally sound, heart-changing puppies that would go forth from our program and become:
We have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars investing in our program, but it is ALL worth it for the outcome - healthy, sound, fully health-tested dogs, producing healthy and sound puppies that will grow up to become outstanding canine citizens and lovers of their people.
We are on a mission to produce HEART-HEALING, LIFE CHANGING puppies and to teach all of our puppies that humans are good and dogs are safe!
