At Doodles Of Cypress we are passionate about sending your puppies home as healthy as possible, and a huge part of continuing that pattern of best-health choices is spacing out Vaccines.
For reference, the words "Combo Shot," will refer to the following DA2PP vaccine (and NOT include ANY OTHER VACCINATIONS):
The DA2PP vaccine for dogs contains the following individual shots:
This is our RECOMMENDED Approach To Administering Vaccines To Your Puppy:
8 Weeks (with us for Tier I and II Puppies):
1st Round Combo Shot
11 Weeks (with us for Tier II Puppies; with the New Owner for Tier I Puppies):
2nd Round Combo Shot
1st Bordetella Booster
Also recommended to get another Fecal at this visit due to exposure after Go-Home
14 Weeks:
3rd Round Combo Shot
2nd & Final Bordetella Booster
1st Canine Influenza Booster
17 Weeks:
4th & Final Round Combo Shot
2nd & Final Canine Influenza Booster
**IF YOU ARE IN AN AREA that causes the need for a Leptospirosis Vaccine:
-1st Lepto Booster
20 Weeks:
IF you did NOT administer the Lepto:
-Rabies (this concludes all vaccines for a year)
IF you DID administer the Lepto:
-2nd Lepto Booster
23 Weeks:
IF you DID administer the Lepto, you finalize ALL vaccines with the final vaccine for the year:
-RABIES
We realize that spacing vaccines out like this is a time commitment and financial commitment as it requires more visits to the vet, but vets will often just schedule tech visits if you ask them -- in other words, not full exams by the veterinarian and only a check to make sure the puppy is not ill prior to a vet tech administering the vaccination. Lepto is controversial. It is Zoonotic, meaning that it is spreadable to Humans from animals, and can be a very dangerous disease. No matter what, this vaccine is best administered at 12 weeks or LATER, which is in alignment with our recommendations here.
Groomers, Trainers, and Boarding Kennels require Bordetella & Canine Influenza (in addition to the combo & Rabies vaccinations).
You will have to advocate for your dog with this vaccine schedule as most vets will tell you this amount of caution is not necessary. It is a small time commitment that will benefit your dog in the long run.
REMEMBER -- Take your puppy EVERWHERE but NO FOUR ON THE FLOOR until they are fully vaccinated!!! Meaning, do not let your puppy walk in public spaces (sidewalks in your neighborhood and your front yard are included in PUBLIC SPACES, as is your Veterinary hospital). But we DO want you to take your puppy everywhere your puppy is welcome -- this is essential in socializing and preventing overwhelm during developmental fear periods.
